I have been blessed with being able to work many years in the public education sector, providing me with experiences that have changed my life, and the lives of my students and colleagues. Those of us in this field have the proud honor of helping our future generations learn and grow into our world’s next great leaders. However, we never know enough, and we can always find ways to help improve our own skills and abilities, and those around us doing the same work. That is why service in our field is so crucial, so that we can use our experiences and lessons to help others.

We grow in different ways, not just by learning from others. A big piece of growth in our professional and personal lives involves being of service to those around us, which is why it is so crucial for all of us doing this work to share with one another ways to help everyone around us. My daily workload during the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed this service down in the past months, but the desire is always there to reach out to others to see how I can help. As we continue to recover and improve our post-pandemic learning environments, I continue to strive to help all those around me in any way possible.
Organizations

Becoming a member of the Texas Computer Education Association has led me to heights I could not believe. I began going to the annual conference as a classroom teacher, and now attend as a district administrator. Through the years I have learned from hundreds of educators around the state and around the country, and have had the pleasure of presenting at multiple TCEA events. The professional development and area networking opportunities that TCEA provides throughout the year has helped me grow, and provided me with a space to share my own experiences.

The Technology Coordinator’s Special Interest Group is a community that comes together to support one another on a daily basis. Daily email threads invite the brightest minds in educational technology around the state of Texas to solve problems and provide answers to complicated issues. As a member I have received help with issues we were having in our district, recommendations on hardware, software, and vendor support, and information about technology advocacy in the Texas Legislature. I have hopefully been able to help a few others along the way as well.

The North Texas Association of Technology Directors (NTATD) is an amazing community of supportive educational technology minds that supports one another with any endeavor they may encounter. Meeting once a month during the school year to talk about the latest trends in technology, and to learn from how other districts handle their technology solutions provides members with a network of people to turn to when they run into any issues.
Accolades
Classlink Award of Excellence for Outstanding Implementation for a K12 Small District

I led an implementation of a new single-sign-on service (SSO) for our school district in the summer of 2020, and we were awarded this outstanding implementation award by Classlink, the SSO provider. This national recognition celebrated the hard work that was put in to implement this tool, and we were proud to be chosen amongst the hundreds of small districts that implemented Classlink in 2020. The large district award winner was Utica Community Schools in Michigan.
Stories in EDU Publication
I was proud to be included along with a fantastic group of educators with stories that were printed in the Stories in EDU: Sail with a Fleet (2018) publication. The stories that were told were incredibly inspiring and uplifting as it showed the love that educators had for their craft. The accompanying podcast was fun to be a part of, and provided a great experience listening to different educators passionately speak about our field.
